CHICKAMAUGA LAKE BASS FISHING GUIDE
The past week I have seen some changes starting to take place. This is the first week I have caught some quality fish in the grass. I have caught fish from 6 feet out to 22 feet. The fish on the ledges will be set up to eat and then a school of bait will move by and pull them off the spot. It is so cool watching it on live scope. They will set back up but it seems to take them a while to get back. The fish can be hard to trigger but once you get them going you can catch several. To target those fish I have been going through several baits till I find what they want to eat. I have caught them on a 3/4oz football jig, jig head minnow, drop shot, ned rig, Carolina rig, and Neko rig. Pretty much throwing the kitchen sink at them. We have been able to catch some good numbers early out of the grass on a 1/2oz chatter bait and Neko rig. I fished the Friday night tournament out of Harrison Bay State Park and 2 of our big fish came before dark out of the grass. The grass bite should really take off in August. Give me a call to book a trip.
The bass fishing for the past week has been really good. Since TVA has been pulling current it has the fish on the ledges stacked up and chewing. On the ledges we have been catching fish on football jigs, carolinga rigs, big worms, and of course the jig head minnow. We have actually caught a few good fish on crankbaits. The grass bite really picked up with more quality showing up everyday. We caught more and better quality this past week out of the grass than the previous . We have caught them out of the grass on chatterbaits, neko rigs, and drop shots. The quality isn't in all the grass. If you would like to see the productive grass give me a call. I have trips available next week.
NICKAJACK LAKE
All I can say is WOW! This lake is absolutely insane with numbers right now. My client caught over 100 fish the other day mostly on top water. That same trip he had 19lbs in 30 minutes all on a chatterbait. As long as the lake doesn't get too much pressure it will be amazing in 2-3 years. We have been catching most of our fish on top water walking baits and chatterbaits targeting grass from 4-8ft. I have been fishing Nickajack lake for over 20 years and I have never seen it this good. As the mats start thinning out the frog bite will be insane with alot bigger fish being caught. Give me a call if you want to get in on the fun and book a trip.
CHICKAMAUGA LAKE
The fishing on Chickamauga has been hit or miss the last couple weeks. The morning bite has been alot slower than the afternoon bite. Once the TVA cuts the current on the fish are alot more active and position alot better. Most of my fish have been caught on main lake grass between 6-10 ft on chatterbaits and waky rigs. The fish are not in all of the grass and you can go long stretches without getting bit. Once you hit a group there are several in there.
This lake is absolutely insane right now. You can catch them just about any technique you want right now. Unfortunately it looks like TVA has nucked the hydrilla mats. I've seen alot of the mats dying and floating off this past week. That being said there are still plenty of mats left that you can catch them on a frog. The most productive baits for me this past week has been the jig head minnow, chatterbait, and top water walking baits. The fish are still in the deeper eel grass and hydrilla. It takes alot of time and effort to find the places the bigger ones are holding but it pays off because they seem to be there everyday. With the cooler nights and shorter days the fish should be chomping. Give me a call if you would like to take advantage of this hot bite or learn how to find the productive grass and what it looks like.
Last week I was lucky enough to catch a 10.40 prefishing for the CBA which was my personal best on Nickajack. It was caught on a 1/2oz spinnerbait burning it over submerged grass. Last week we caught alot of fish using swimbaits, top water baits, and spinnerbaits over the submerged grass. We also caught alot of fish on alabama rigs and chatterbaits around thicker clumps of hydrilla closer to deeper water. Had an 8 hour trip today and it took an hour or so to relocate the fish but once I did they where chewing and was able to catch over 21lbs. Most of our damage was done on a 1/2oz chatterbait around hydrilla clumps on the main lake. We also caught a couple good ones on a jerkbait close to deep water. We hit a little grass flat and was able to boat some quality fish on a top water and 1/2oz spinnerbait. They absolutely exploded on the top water baits today. I have days available next week if you want in on this hot bite.
